The road out of SW15
South Circular to the M25 and round to the M20 for the Folkestone shuttle. This is the one route on the site where a North Sea sailing from Harwich or Hull is a real alternative rather than a theoretical one, and on some schedules it is the better answer.
Out of Calais the A16 becomes the E40 through Dunkirk, runs past Bruges and Ghent, and turns north on the E19 or E34 for Antwerp and the border. Beyond it the A16 and A4 serve Rotterdam, The Hague and Amsterdam, while Utrecht and Eindhoven hang off the A2.

Proximity is the trap on this route
Amsterdam is close enough that households treat it as barely abroad — book late, skip the survey and assume the short crossing absorbs any problem. It does not. It is still a customs job, the inventory still has to describe the contents properly, and the SW15 tenancy still has to be ended on its own terms.
The other half of the trap is the far end. Dutch city staircases are famously steep and narrow, and the buildings were designed with that in mind — which is why there is a hook in the gable. An external hoist or ladder lift is the ordinary solution, and it needs booking, a clear pavement and occasionally a municipal permit.

The hook or beam at the top of many Dutch townhouses, used with a rope or an external lift to raise furniture to an upper window. Standard practice there, arranged as part of the job.

It is issued once you register there, so it cannot exist before you arrive. Everything downstream is easier once it does, and goods can sit here in store in the meantime.

Bring them. Households there acquire more bicycles than they expect to, and space for the ones you already have is cheaper built in than improvised.
